Welcome to the Freya von Moltke Foundation for the New Kreisau!
The goal of the Freya von Moltke Foundation for the New Kreisau is to support the work of the international memorial and meeting place, Kreisau, in the Polish village of Krzyżowa. The Foundation will ensure the existence of this important site, as well as work to raise public interest for it.
Annually, thousands of students and young adults come together in Kreisau to take part in workshops, seminars, and conferences. They tackle issues concerning contemporary history, human rights, and learn to discover their creative and manual skills. They also take part in sporting activities and have an enjoyable time together.
During World War II a resistance group known as Kreisau Circle held their meetings in the house that belonged to Helmuth James and Freya von Moltke. The members of the group developed concepts for a democratic Germany and a united Europe after the fall of Nazism. In November 1989, Kreisau was the location for the German-Polish reconciliation mass, which was and is still considered to be a new beginning for the relations between the two countries.
On the basis of its resistance legacy, Kreisau today is a truly European place that builds bridges between the past and present, the different cultures, languages and people.
